Kiawah Island chosen for 2021 PGA championship
The PGA Championship is returning to the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island (South Carolina) in 2021, three decades after the seaside layout made its debut at the 1991 Ryder Cup. This will be the second time Pete Dye’s course has hosted golf’s final major – in 2012 Rory McIlroy won by eight shots. The course was commissioned specifically for the Ryder Cup, and Bernhard Langer’s missed par putt lifted the U.S. to victory. While the golf is magnificent, the logistics of moving people on and off the seaside island near Charleston presents a challenge. In 2012, shuttles for fans and media from downtown Charleston took up to 90 minutes to make the 40-mile trip. –AP
