CWU women fall to Penn State in rugby final

The Penn State women’s rugby team secured its fourth straight national championship Saturday, defeating Central Washington 61-7 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia.

It was the Nittany Lions’ 11th consecutive title game appearance. They’ve won 10 championships, including seven in the past 10 years.

For the Wildcats, it was the first year playing women’s rugby as a varsity program.

Central Washington finally got on the board in the 71st minute when freshman Jenny Johnson scored after the Wildcats stole a scrum.

Central Washington will now play in the USA Rugby Collegiate 7’s National Championship Tournament starting May 23 in Denver.
