New president for SCC selected

Ryan Carstens (Spokane Community College)
Ryan Carstens, vice president for academic affairs at New Mexico State University, will become the next president of Spokane Community College. Carstens was selected by Community Colleges of Spokane Chancellor Christine Johnson following a national search and will start July 1, the school announced today. He brings more than 30 years of experience in higher education leadership and administration. “I was fortunate to choose from a strong pool of candidates and am confident he will position SCC for continued success in providing excellent education to our community,” Johnson said in prepared remarks. The nationwide search produced four finalists, who were interviewed in Spokane last month by college and community leaders. Before his interview, Carstens toured both Spokane campuses in the six-county community college district’s region and several of its rural learning centers, including in Newport, Ione, Colville, Republic, and Inchelium. He will replace SCC President Scott Morgan, who is set to retire this fall.
