Awarded Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah won the J. Walter Kennedy Award, given annually to an NBA player, coach or trainer for community service. The two-time All-Star was selected for his work with youth. His Noah’s Arc Foundation recently launched the “Rock Your Drop: The Drop of Consciousness” anti-violence initiative, supporting those impacted by violence and encouraging youngsters to express themselves through sports and art.
Relocated U.S. swimming star Michael Phelps says he will relocate to Tempe, Arizona, to continue training under longtime coach Bob Bowman. Phelps currently lives and trains in Baltimore. He is making the move after Bowman was hired as the men’s and women’s swimming coach at Arizona State.
Signed The Atlanta Falcons have added a possible new starter to their offensive line by signing former Redskins tackle Tyler Polumbus. The 6-foot-8, 308-pound Polumbus started 42 of his 47 games during four years with the Redskins. He also has played with Denver and Seattle.
Flipped IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden flipped his car in Indianapolis 500 practice. Newgarden lost control of the CFH Racing entry car going into the first turn at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the car flipped and rested on its side after it slapped into the wall.
Asked Massachusetts prosecutors are asking a judge to drop a perjury charge against the fiancee of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez because of an immunity deal. Prosecutors filed a motion in Bristol County Superior Court to dismiss the perjury case against Shayanna Jenkins, citing her testimony against Hernandez.
Announced Boxer Deontay Wilder is staying close to home for his first defense of the WBC heavyweight title. Wilder will fight Eric Molina on June 13 at UAB’s Bartow Arena, about an hour from his Tuscaloosa hometown. Wilder, 33-0, is the first unbeaten American to own a piece of the heavyweight title since Michael Moorer in 1994.
