Volleyball roundup: Gonzaga ends three-match losing skid with win over Pepperdine

Savannah Blinn had 18 kills and Faith Smith added 26 assists and 11 digs as Gonzaga snapped a three-match losing skid with a straight-set win over Pepperdine in a West Coast Conference match Saturday in Spokane. Scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20.

The win was the Bulldogs’ first sweep over Pepperdine since 1992.

GU’s Jordan Gasser added 11 kills and Kaylie Loewen had five kills and five blocks.

Becca Strehlow led the Waves (12-7, 3-3) with seven kills, 27 assists and six digs.

Gonzaga (12-7, 3-3) plays BYU in Provo, Utah, on Thusday.

Eagles top Portland State for seventh-straight win

Allie Schumacher led three players in double-digit kill totals with 17 and Eastern Washington beat Portland State (5-13, 1-5) in a Big Sky Conference match in Cheney. Scores were 25-22, 25-18, 18-25 and 25-15.

The win was the Eagles’ seventh straight.

EWU’s Ana Jakovljevic and Jessica Gilbert each added 12 kills and Alexis Wesley had a match-high eight kills.

Eastern Washington (11-6, 6-0) plays at Montana State on Thursday.

Vandals top Sacramento State in five sets

Katelyn Peterson had 18 kills and Tineke Bierma added 15 kills and nine blocks as Idaho topped Sacramento State (16-5, 3-3) in five sets in a Big Sky Conference match in Moscow, Idaho. Scores were 14-25, 26-24, 25-20, 27-29 and 15-9.

It was the second-straight five-set win for the Vandals. Idaho (5-13, 3-3) plays at Montana on Thursday.

Leonard guides Whitworth past Lewis & Clark

Nicole Leonard had 14 kills and 18 digs and Whitworth topped Lewis & Clark 26-24, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23 in a Northwest Conference match in Spokane.

Maddye Dinsmore added 45 assists and 10 digs for the Pirates. The Pioneers (7-8, 4-4) were led by Julia Somers’ 14 kills and 13 digs.

Whitworth (12-6, 6-2) hosts Pacific Lutheran on Friday.

CCS sweeps Treasure Valley

Jessica Schmautz had 11 kills and 14 assists and Sam Alumbres dished out 30 assists as Community Colleges of Spokane swept Treasure Valley (4-19, 2-7) in a Northwest Athletic Conference match at Spokane Falls Community College. Scores 25-20, 25-22 and 25-20.

The Sasquatch (14-20, 6-3) play Blue Mountain at SFCC on Wednesday.
