Reading with Poet B.H. Fairchild - Whitworth Endowed Reader Series. Fairchild has won the National Book Critic’s Circle Award, the California Book Award, the Kingsley Tuft Prize, the William Carlos Williams Prize, and he has been a finalist for the National Book Award. YWCA Women of Achievement Luncheon - Established with the goal of increasing community awareness and appreciation for the diverse contributions of women leaders in Spokane, this luncheon has honored more than 200 women in the region. The keynote speaker is Cheryl Strayed, author of the New York Times best-selling memoir, “Wild,” which tells the amateur hiker’s tale as she struggles to find inner peace and stability during her journey along the Pacific Crest Trail. Author Kimberly Meyer - Part of the Gonzaga University Visiting Writers Series that presents nationally and regionally prominent writers. Meyer, a nonfiction writer and professor at the University of Houston will read from her work. “The Book of Wanderings,” her most recent work, was written as a memoir to chronicle her journey to find meaning and answers to some of life’s more pressing questions. Her work also appears in “The Best American Travel Writing 2012”; Ploughshares; Kenyon Review; Ecotone; Oxford American; The Georgia Review; Agni; The Southern Review; Brain, Child magazine; Crab Orchard Review; Natural Bridge; and Third Coast. Her audio-documentary work has been featured on Public Radio International’s “This American Life.” Fellowships to the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the Vermont Studio Center, a Houston Arts Alliance Established Artist Grant, an Inprint/Michener Fellowship, and a Brown Foundation Fellowship have supported Meyer’s writing.
