Area roundup: Sasquatch, Cardinals split softball doubleheader

Michele Strauss tossd a complete-game shutout and the CC Spokane Sasquatch (15-9, 7-7) defeated the North Idaho Cardinals 2-0 in the first game of a NWAC doubleheader on Wednesday in Coeur d’Alene.

NIC (17-5, 11-3) won the nightcap 9-6 by scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. NIC roughed up Strauss, scoring all five runs off the CC Spokane ace who came in and got the final out of the sixth inning before running into trouble in the seventh.

Baseball

The CC Spokane Sasquatch (11-9, 0-6) are still looking for their first NWAC win of the season after losing 6-5 and 7-5 to Big Bend (15-3, 4-2) in Moses Lake.

Garrett Schmerer, Jordan Ross and Tyler Huck each had three hits for CCS.

Honors

Spokane Empire running back Trevor Kennedy was named the IFL’s offensive player of the week after he rushed for 127 yards and four TDs in 54-51 win over Iowa.
