Locally: 13 selected for induction into Spokane Metro Softball Hall of Fame

The board that oversees the Spokane Metro Softball Hall of Fame has selected 13 players for the class of 2016.

The new inductees are Dan Armitage, John Barrington, Von Chimienti, Carl Clark, Tim Clinton, Bob Erickson, Mark Hilborn, Jack Martin, Harry McClelland, Missy Sharp, Bill Shepherd, Mark Skubinna and Ken Stacy.

A banquet to honor the inductees will be held Sept. 10 at the Eagle’s Lodge. Reservations can be made by calling Don Love at (509) 467-5328.

Golf

Derek Siesser, of The Creek at Qualchan, recently shot an 8-over 150 in the National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship at Fairwood Golf and Country Club in Renton, Washington. With that score, Siesser tied for 10th place.

Several area junior golfers placed recently at the Idaho State Championships held at Sand Creek golf course in Idaho Falls.

In the girls 9-10-year-old division, Amanda Nguyen, of Spokane, won. Braylin Bayer, of Pinehurst, Idaho, finished fourth and Avery Bayer, also of Pinehurst, finished fifth.

In the girls 11-12 division, Bently Pearle Flory, of Coeur d’Alene, finished sixth.

In the 9-10 boys division, Trey Nipp, of Coeur d’Alene, finished tied for sixth.

In the 11-12 boys division, Matthew Durkin, of Spokane, won and Alexander Cooke, of Spokane, finished sixth.

In the 13-year-old boys division, Evan Pierce, of Spokane, won in a playoff. Tommy Kimmel, also of Spokane, finished fourth.

Shooting

The Spokane Junior Rifle Club had one individual shooter, 16-year-old Aidan Maddox, and two teams qualify for the 2016 National 3 Position Junior Olympic Air Rifle Championships.

The two teams included Maliya Hillman, 17, of Lewis and Clark; Cassidy Wilson, 16, of Riverpoint Academy; Mike Cooper, 18, of Mt. Spokane and Maddox.

The second team included Mary Maystrovich, 17; Mason Maystrovich, 15; Katie McAdam, 15, all of Northwest Christian; and David Wright, 18, of Riverpoint Academy.
