GOP gubernatorial candidate Bryant won’t vote for Trump

Associated Press

SEATTLE – Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Bryant said he won’t be voting for his party’s presidential candidate, Donald Trump.

Bryant told seattlepi.com on Monday that he also wouldn’t be voting for Democrat Hillary Clinton but would take a “serious look” at the Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson.

For months Bryant had avoided questions from reporters about whether he would back Trump. Chris Vance, the GOP candidate for U.S. Senate, has denounced Trump and Republican Rep. Dave Reichert recently said he wouldn’t be supporting the party’s standard bearer either.

Bryant said Trump’s criticism of the Muslim family of a fallen U.S. soldier caused him to withhold his support.

On Wednesday Bryant, a former Seattle port commissioner, will face Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee in their first face-to face debate. Recent polling shows Bryant trailing the incumbent.
