Seaside mayor dies shortly after leaving office

Associated Press

SEASIDE, Ore. – Former Seaside Mayor Don Larson has died less than a month after leaving office because of declining health.

The Daily Astorian reported Larson died at home Sunday. He was 80 years old and had cancer.

Larson served as Seaside’s mayor from 2002 until he resigned in mid-November. The League of Oregon Cities recognized him as Mayor of the Year in 2009.

City Manager Mark Winstanley said Larson was a marvelous mayor who was willing to reach out to anyone, whether they agreed with him or not.

He is survived by his wife Lois, whom he married 55 years ago. He’s also survived by three children and seven grandchildren.
