WCC roundup: BYU blasts San Diego
Nick Emery scored 17 points, grabbed nine rebounds with five assists, and BYU dominated San Diego in a 91-33 win Saturday night in Provo, Utah.
It was the largest margin of victory of the season for the Cougars, who scored 20 of the game’s first 22 points and took a 39-11 advantage into the break.
Zac Seljaas added 13 points and Kyle Collinsworth had 12 for BYU, who shot 57 percent (36 for 63), got 25 assists and went 12 of 27 from long range to notch its ninth game of the season with at least 10 3-pointers. The Toreros missed all 20 of their shots from 3-point range. The 20 attempts without a make are the most by a team in a game this season. The Toreros were just 14 of 57 from the field (25 percent).
Loyola Marymount 100, USF 87 (OT): Steven Haney scored 25 points and the Lions beat the Dons in Los Angeles.
Loyola Marymount dominated overtime 18-5. It was the Lions’ first 100-point game since Dec. 21, 2013, against NAIA member La Sierra. Marin Mornar scored 19 points, Brandon Brown had 17 points with 10 assists and Shamar Johnson added 10 points for LMU, which shot better than 46 percent.
Pepperdine 88, Santa Clara 76: Lamond Murray Jr. had 25 points, Stacy Davis added 20 points and 10 rebounds and the Waves used a second-half run to pull away from the Broncos in Malibu, California.
Portland 80, Pacific 67: Alec Wintering scored 27 points, Bryce Pressley added 15 and the Pilots snapped a two-game skid with a win over the Tigers in Portland.
Jarrel Marshall and D’Marques Tyson had 10 points apiece for Portland, which went 30 for 32 from the free-throw line. Wintering was 6 for 12 from the field and 14 of 16 from the line.
