Prep roundup: Mead repeats win at 4A volleyball regionals

Mead won the 4A regional championship by defeating host Richland 25-14, 25-21, 14-25, 26-24 to repeat as champions. Gonzaga Prep came up short in its quest for a State berth. The Bullpups defeated Pasco and Ferris in straight sets before falling to Richland 25-22, 27-25, 25-18.

Shadle Park was eliminated at the 3A bi-districts after falling to Kamiakin 17-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18 at Mt. Spokane.

Pullman edged host East Valley (Yakima) 12-25, 25-22, 25-18, 14-25, 15-6 in a 2A glue-in match to advance to State. Cheney also progressed to State after holding off visiting Othello 25-21, 25-16, 27-29, 29-31, 15-10.

Host Freeman moved on to the State 1A tournament with a 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 win over Chelan.

Colfax captured first place in the Northeast 2B district tournament at St. George’s after defeating Wilbur-Creston 25-20, 23-25, 25-12, 22-25, 15-5 in the championship match. Northwest Christian defeated Davenport 22-25, 25-13, 25-22, 16-25, 15-13 to secure third place. All four schools advance to State.

Oakesdale bested Pomeroy 17-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-11 at the District 9 1B tournament at Colfax to secure a berth to State. In the District 7 1B tournament at Northwest Christian, Almira/Coulee-Hartline took down Odessa-Harrington in the championship match, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18. Both schools moves on to the State tournament. Valley Christian got by Selkirk 25-22, 25-22, 17-25, 27-25 to grab the third bid to State. Earlier, VC beat Inchelium in three sets and Selkirk Republic in four to set up the play-in match.

Soccer

4A: Gonzaga Prep fell at Chiawana 2-1 on Saturday in a regional. Chiawana advanced to State while the Bullpups were eliminated.

3A: Mt. Spokane defeated host Mercer Island 2-0 in a 3A regional to advance to State.

2A: Chloe Gelhaus netted two goals and Shannon Frucci added a goal and three assists as East Valley blanked visiting Ellensburg 6-0 Saturday in a 2A regional crossover.

Taylen Wohl tallied a goal and an assist as Clarkston dumped host Othello 3-0. Both the Knights and Bantams advanced to the round of 16.
