Women’s basketball: EWU, WSU win exhibition games
Freshman forward Uriah Howard debuted with 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Eastern Washington to a 67-60 over Eastern Oregon on Sunday in a women’s basketball exhibition game at Cheney.
Howard was 6 of 7 from the field, including two 3-pointers. Tisha Phillips added 14 points, Symone Starks 11 and Delaney Hodgins 10.
Maya Ah You led the Mountaineers with 14 points.
EWU outscored Eastern Oregon 21-7 in the first quarter and led by 16 with 1:07 remaining in the game.
The Eagles will open the regular season at Washington on Friday night at 7 as part of the Preseason WNIT.
Pinelopi Pavlopoulou and Borislava Hristova each scored 15 points and Washington State defeated Alaska-Anchorage 81-73 in an exhibition game in Pullman.
Pavlopoulou hit three 3-pointers, dished out eight assists while Alexys Swedlund added 12 points and Nike McClure blocked seven shots.
WSU opens the regular season at home against Loyola Marymount on Friday at 7 p.m.
