Timberlake finishes second in 3A state volleyball

Timberlake fell to Sugar-Salem in straight sets, 25-15, 25-14, 25-16, in the Idaho 3A volleyball title match in Rexburg, Idaho, on Saturday.

The Tigers lost to Sugar-Salem earlier in the day in a winner’s bracket game, then knocked off Parma in the loser-out match for the right to face Sugar-Salem again in the finals. Timberlake would have had to beat Sugar-Salem twice for the title.

In 2A, St. Maries beat Cole Valley Christian 17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16, 15-11) in Idaho Falls to survive in the loser bracket but fell to Malad 25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20 in the loser-out to the title match.

Cross country

Austin Byrer of Lewiston won the boys 5A cross country title with a time of 15 minutes, 58.53 seconds at the Portneuf Wellness Center in Pocatello.

Other area runners: Joey Perez of Lewiston finished ninth and Alex Walde of Coeur d’Alene placed 14th.

Lewiston finished fifth and CdA took 10th.

5A girls: Kaitlyn Blume of Lewiston was the top finisher in 22nd. Coeur d’Alene finished 10, followed by Post Falls in 11th. Sydney Shanahan of Post Falls came in 27th and Rylee Brown of Coeur d’Alene was 44th.

4A boys: Josh Corgatelli of Moscow (sixth), Cooper Haney, Lakeland (27th) and Cole Dillon, Sandpoint (28th) were the top area finishers. Sandpoint took ninth and Moscow placed 12th.

4A girls: Katherine Ruck of Moscow placed third, while Katherine Kaul of Sandpoint took 14th. Sandpoint came in fifth and Moscow ended up ninth.

3A boys: Landon Chang of Coeur d’Alene Charter won the boys 3A title with a time of 16:39.90. Landon Davis of Timberlake finished seventh. Coeur d’Alene Charter took third, Timberlake was fourth and Priest River ninth.

3A girls: Abigail Peightal of Timberlake placed eighth, Abigail Gorton of Bonners Ferry was 11th and Jordan Young of Bonners Ferry took 12th place. Timberlake came in third, Coeur d’Alene Charter finished sixth and Priest River eighth.
