Around the nation: Penn State avenges 2015 loss to Temple
Trace McSorley completed 18 of 24 passes for 287 yards with one touchdown and an interception and rushed for another score to lead Penn State to a 34-27 win against Temple on Saturday.
A year after the Nittany Lions (2-1) were embarrassed in a season-opening loss to the Owls, Penn State scored on three of its first five drives to take a 21-10 halftime lead. Although he left the game with a left leg injury on the first play, running back Saquon Barkley returned in the second half and ended Temple’s comeback bid with a 55-yard touchdown run with less than eight minutes to play.
Maryland 30, UCF 24: Terrapins’ freshman quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome replaced starter Perry Hills and on his only play of the game raced 24 yards for the game-winning score in Maryland’s double-overtime win over UCF in Orlando, Florida.
UConn 13, Virginia 10: Walk-on kicker Alex Furbank missed a 20-yard field-goal attempt for the Cavaliers as time expired and the Huskies beat Virginia in East Hartford, Connecticut.
Oklahoma State 45, Pittsburgh 38: Mason Rudolph connected on an 86-yard pass to Jhajuan Seales, then Rennie Childs scored on a 1-yard run – his fourth rushing touchdown of the game – with 1:28 remaining to lift the Cowboys to victory over the Panthers in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
South Carolina 20, East Carolina 15: Freshman Brandon McIlwain got his first start and played the whole game, but it was the Gamecocks’ defense that carried South Carolina to a win over the Pirates in Columbia, South Carolina.
Navy 21, Tulane 14: Quarterback Will Worth rushed for 111 yards and the winning touchdown in the final three minutes as the Midshipmen rallied to defeat the Green Wave in New Orleans.
Army 66, UTEP 14: Darnell Woolfolk ran for three touchdowns, Andy Davidson rushed for 106 yards and another score and the Black Knights routed the Miners in El Paso, Texas.
