College softball: Whitworth’s Perez throws shutout in doubleheader split
Madi Perez threw her second shutout of the weekend, tossing a five-hitter in Whitworth’s 3-0 win over Pacific Lutheran in Parkland, Washington, before the Lutes rebounded in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader, 7-1, to end the Pirates’ 14-game win streak.
Perez (18-1) struck out two and walked none in the opener. Michelle Silva brought in a run in the third with a ground out and Whitworth added two more in the fifth on an RBI double by Logan Miller and Shannon Wessel’s ground out.
Even with the second-game loss to the Lutes (17-13, 13-11), the Pirates (31-6, 21-3) remain in first place with a two-game lead over second-place Linfield (17-5) in the loss column. Whitworth finishes the regular season with a four-game series at Linfield next weekend.
Washington 10, Oregon State 8: Casey Stangel had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs to lead the 10th-ranked Huskies (29-9, 6-6 Pac-12) to a 10-8 win over the Beavers (19-17, 2-7) in Seattle.
Walla Walla 11-9, CC Spokane 2-6: Madilyn Naccarato collected four hits but the Sasquatch were swept on the road by the Warriors (16-8, 11-5 NWAC).
