Four Washington State University faculty members, Amit Bandyopadhyay, Susmita Bose, Douglas Call and Jonathan Yoder, have been elected to the Washington State Academy of Sciences. Bandyopadhyay, Herman and Brita Lindholm endowed chair and professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, is an expert in materials and advanced manufacturing and holds 15 U.S. patents. Bose uses the fields of chemistry, bioengineering, materials science and advanced manufacturing – mainly 3-D printing – to use technology to improve human health. Bose is also a Herman and Brita Lindholm endowed chair and professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Call, a professor of molecular epidemiology, researches antimicrobial resistance, considered a leading public health challenge of the future. Yoder is a professor in the School of Economic Sciences and works to provide an evidence-based foundation for natural resource policy.
Health
Columbia Surgical Specialists has hired three surgeons. Jordan Sand specializes in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Kai Sharbono is a general surgery surgeon. David Stoddard is a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. All three will practice at Columbia Surgical Specialist’s downtown location.
Insurance
Capital Insurance Group has hired Jennifer Wagner as the northwest region’s regional field executive. Wagner will be responsible for developing agent relationships in Oregon and Washington. Wagner has nearly 20 years of experience, also having worked with Travelers, Kemper, Safeco and Cochrane and Co.
Nonprofit
Partnering for Progress has named Amanda Strong, Kendra Edlin and Amber Frohberg to its board of directors. Strong is project manager for Strong Technology Consulting Inc. Edlin is assistant vice president of retail experience at Numerica Credit Union. Frohberg is a women’s and children’s program manager at CHAS. Partnering for Progress, a Spokane-based nonprofit, sends volunteer teams to Kenya twice a year to help improve infrastructure with local villagers. (Because of a reporting error, an item on the new board members that ran in the June 25 Business Beat incorrectly listed Strong’s and Frohberg’s positions.)
Public relations
Lori Maricle has received accreditation in public relations from the Public Relations Society of America. The program assesses 60 areas of knowledge, skills and abilities used in the public relations profession. Maricle, the marketing, public relations and communications coordinator for Washington State University’s College of Pharmacy, has worked at WSU for five years.
Real estate
Kiemle & Hagood Co. has hired Leslie Yates as corporate controller and Sheila Jewell as human resource director and office manager. Yates previously worked at RiskLens as controller and as executive assistant to the CEO of Hecla Mining Co. Jewell comes to the company from Fred Meyer, where she was human resource manager.
RE/MAX Inland Empire has hired Glen Gardner and Ellen Lightner as brokers. Lightner, a graduate of Eastern Washington University, previously owned a coffee shop. Gardner is a former small-business owner.
Transportation
Larry Krauter, CEO of Spokane International Airport, has been named Director of the Year in Airport Revenue News’ small airports category. He also has worked as interim executive director of Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority in Pennsylvania and was the airport planner for the city of Columbus, Ohio. Krauter will be featured on the cover of the publication’s September issue.
