Weekend prep basketball recap: GSL and GNL regional previews

Almost all Washington leagues have wrapped up and the district and subregional brackets have been assigned, while Idaho is still sorting things out. Here’s a look at the Greater Spokane and Great Northern Leagues stack up heading into regionals.

Greater Spokane League

Boys: Anton Watson continued his impressive season with 18 points and GSL champ Gonzaga Prep (19-1) beat Mt. Spokane (8-12, 6-12) on Saturday.

No. 1 seed G-Prep, ranked second in state 4A in the latest WIAA RPI ratings, hosts Hanford or Pasco in the 4A subregionals on Wednesday. Hanford and Pasco meet Tuesday in a play-in game.

Ferris (16-4) downed Rogers 53-34 on Saturday. The Saxons earned the No. 2 seed in the 4A regional and will get to host an opening-round game against Chiawana on Wednesday.

Rogers plays Southridge on Tuesday in the 3A subregionals on Tuesday and the winner faces host Mt. Spokane on Thursday.

Central Valley beat Shadle Park 44-42 on Saturday and will play at Walla Walla in the 4A subregional on Wednesday. Shadle is the top seed in 3A and hosts the North Central-Kennewick winner on Saturday.

Naje Smith scored 21 points and Lewis and Clark beat U-Hi on Saturday and finished in fifth place while University was sixth. The teams play again on Tuesday in the play-in game to the 4A subregionals.

Girls: Lexie Hull scored 15 points and Central Valley (20-0) cruised past Shadle Park (0-19) 61-14 on Saturday.

No. 1 seed Central Valley, ranked sixth in state 4A in the latest WIAA RPI ratings, hosts Pasco or Hanford in 4A subregional on Wednesday. Pasco and Hanford meet Tuesday in a play-in game.

Shadle goes to Kennewick in the 3A subregional on Tuesday and the winner travels to North Central on Thursday.

Gonzaga Prep (13-7), the 4A No. 2-seed defeated 3A No. 1 Mt. Spokane (16-4) 43-34 on Saturday.

G-Prep hosts Walla Walla on Wednesday in the 4A subregionals, while Mt. Spokane hosts the Rogers-Southridge winner on Saturday in the 3A subregional.

Mead beat North Central on Saturday and faces University on Tuesday in the play-in game to the 4A subregional.

Lewis and Clark beat U-Hi on Saturday and plays at Chiawanna on Wednesday in the 4A subregionals.

Great Northern League

Boys: Clarkston, ranked first in state 2A in the latest WIAA RPI ratings, beat Cheney on Saturday and earned the top seed in the GNL tournament. The Bantams await their opponent for Feb. 14. No. 2 seed Pullman hosts Cheney on Tuesday, while No. 3 seed East Valley hosts fourth-seeded West Valley the same night.

Girls: East Valley topped Pullman on Saturday and is the top seed on the girls side. The Knights await their opponent for Feb. 15. No. 2 Clarkston hosts fifth-seeded Pullman while third-seeded West Valley hosts fourth-seed Cheney, both on Wednesday.
