At least 1 hurt after Oklahoma oil field explosion

OKLAHOMA CITY – At least one person was hurt Thursday after an oil field explosion in eastern Oklahoma, authorities say.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the explosion happened near Quinton in Pittsburg County, about 100 miles southeast of Tulsa. Troopers were called out to assist the county sheriff’s office about 12:30 p.m.

The injured person was taken to a local hospital, the highway patrol told TV station KTUL.

The condition of the injured person was not immediately available.

Earlier reports suggested numerous people were hurt.

Quinton police tell KTUL the head blew off a gas well.

The Pittsburg County Emergency Management Office tells KTUL that multiple volunteer fire departments converged on the site. The TV station reports that emergency management crews and the county sheriff’s office also were on the scene.

A state route in the area that had been closed to traffic has reopened.
