Wildfire in Stevens County now fully contained

A wildfire in rural Stevens County was fully contained as of Friday morning.

The Bissell fire started about 7:15 p.m. Sunday about 8 miles north of the town of Hunters, Washington, east of state Highway 25 and the Columbia River.

It grew to nearly 400 acres and briefly threatened some homes and structures. About 25 residents were affected by evacuation orders. However, by Monday evening all orders were lifted.

Firefighters started to leave the fire Thursday night, according a news release sent by Washington State Patrol Trooper Jeff Sevigney.

Firefighters will be patrolling the fire perimeter for the next several days.
