Harman to lay off 86 workers at Cheney operation
Electronics manufacturer Harman International Industries will lay off 86 employees at its AMX by Harman facility in Cheney effective May 4.
Harman informed employees last July that it planned to move the Cheney manufacturing and warehouse activities to other Harman facilities by June 2017.
Formerly XN Technologies, the Cheney business was acquired in 2006 by AMX, based in Richardson, Texas. The Cheney operation designs and manufactures high-performance audio-visual switches and control equipment for industrial and residential users.
XN was started in 1989 by the late Al Hale, with initial contracts for advanced signal-control equipment for the U.S. Air Force. Before that, Hale was a computer science professor at Eastern Washington University.
In November, South Korea’s Samsung Electronics announced it was buying Harman for $8 billion.
