Area roundup: Idaho’s Enrique Marin tied for fifth at Bob Sitton Invitational

Idaho’s Enrique Marin shot 2-under 69 on Thursday to finish tied for fifth in the third and final round of the Bob Sitton Invitational at the TPC Four Seasons in Dallas.

Marin shot 68-77-69 and was 1-over 214 for the tournament. Idaho placed 19th of 24 teams competing.

Arkansas State took the team title, shooting even par overall, and the Red Wolves’ Zan Luka Stirn won individual honors, shooting 69-68-69, 7-under 206.

Idaho’s Ryan Porch tied for 65th at 14-over par and Ethan Atherstone tied for 81st (+19).

Swimming

Whitworth sophomore Eben Schumann finished 28th in the preliminary heats of the 100-yard butterfly on Thursday at the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the CISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.

Schumann finished his race with a time of 49.69. The top 16 swimmers in each event advance to the evening heats.

Schumann will close out his participation in the championship meet on Saturday in the 100-yard freestyle. He is the only Pirate competing at the NCAA meet this weekend.

Local Golf

Esmeralda Golf Course is preparing to open on Monday. The course will likely be walking-only for a couple of weeks to protect the greens.

Downriver, Indian Canyon and the Creek at Qualchan will announce opening dates soon.
