From staff and wire reports

Spokane Chiefs forward Hudson Elynuik signed an amateur tryout contract (ATO) with the American Hockey League’s Charlotte Checkers on Tuesday. Elynuik was selected by the Checkers’ parent club, the Carolina Hurricanes, in the third round of the 2016 NHL draft.

Elynuik finished the 2016-17 season with 73 points (29 goals, 44 assists) this season for the Chiefs.

The 19-year-old center is still eligible to return to the Chiefs next season if he doesn’t sign an entry-level contract with the Hurricanes. Carolina has until the 2018 NHL draft in June to either sign Elynuik, or let him go as an unrestricted free agent.
