Prep baseball roundup: Mt. Spokane ousted from 3A playoffs by Southridge
Southridge beat visiting Mt. Spokane 8-6 on Tuesday eliminating the Wildcats (21-2) in the 3A subregional playoffs.
Southridge earned the No. 2 seed to regional crossover games on Saturday. Earlier in the day, Mt. Spokane defeated Kennewick 3-2 to advance to the game for the second seed.
Kamiakin knocked off Southridge earlier in the day in the championship game and is the No. 1 seed in a crossover game on Saturday.
District 7 2A
Cheney 5, West Valley 1: Devin Cook pitched seven innings while only allowing one run and the visiting Blackhawks (8-11) defeated the Eagles (15-6) to earn the district title.
Both teams advance to crossover games against Central Washington Athletic Conference teams on Saturday.
Cade VanWormer led with two hits, including a double. The Blackhawks batted around in the second inning, scoring four runs.
Conner Whitney smacked three hits, including two doubles, for West Valley.
In the early game, VanWormer drove in three runs and Cheney eliminated Pullman 8-3. Julian Chabot and Matt Riggs combined to strikeout seven, allow two earned runs and scatter nine hits.
District 7 1A
Colville 7, Medical Lake 1: Brayden Flugel struck out 10 in a three-hitter and the visiting Indians (14-4) eliminated the Cardinals (8-7).
Austin Rains was 4 for 4 with two runs for Colville, which advances to face top-seeded Freeman on Wednesday.
Deer Park 5, Lakeside 4: Brandon Moore delivered a walk-off base hit and the Stags (11-6) eliminated the visiting Eagles (6-14).
Deer Park advances to play second-seeded Chewelah on Wednesday.
District 7 & 9
Pomeroy 4, Odessa-Harrington 3: Hogan Heytvelt pitched a complete game and picked up three hits – including a game-tying single in the sixth – and Pirates (15-1) beat the Titans (13-3) at Northwest Christian HS.
Pomeroy scored twice in the sixth, with the eventual winning run scoring on a bases-loaded walk by Cort LaMunyan.
Pomeroy advances to the district title game on Saturday, while O-H faces Selkirk in a loser-out.
Selkirk 10, Northport 0: Peter McAnerin pitched a five-inning shut out with 10 strikeouts and the Rangers (11-7) eliminated the visiting Mustangs (5-12).
Jay Link had a two-run double in the fourth inning for Selkirk, which advances against Odessa-Harrington on Saturday at NWC in a loser out with winner guaranteed a berth at state.
Cusick 8, Garfield-Palouse 7: Colton Hansen’s two-run double in the eighth lifted the visiting Panthers (10-5) over the Vikings (2-8) in extra innings in a loser-out game.
Hansen gave up a run in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded against but escaped as the winning pitcher in relief.
Idaho 5A Region I
Lewiston 14, Lake City 4: Julian Washburn singled twice and drove in four and the Bengals (16-6) beat the visiting Timberwolves (12-9) to win the district title and advance to state.
Jaden Phillips had two hits with three RBIs while Jackson Fuller and Chris Powell had two hits and two RBIs apiece.
Lake City hosts Coeur d’Alene on Thursday for district runner up. The winner goes to a play-in game to state.
Coeur d’Alene 2, Post Falls 1: The Vikings (13-10) beat the host Trojans (13-11) in a loser-out game.
