Deceased male discovered in alleyway near Stevens Elementary School
Spokane police detectives are investigating a body that was found near Stevens Elementary School on Tuesday morning.
A school employee discovered the deceased adult male just before 8 a.m. The body was in the middle of an alleyway across the street near Magnolia Street and Mission Avenue, said Capt. Tracie Meidl, spokeswoman for the Spokane Police Department.
School was not in session when the body was reported.
Police were unsure if any foul play was involved, Meidl said. The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine cause and manner of death and identify the person.
Workers and neighbors in the area said homeless people, including a well-known older male, often frequent a nearby car lot.
Meidl said Tuesday morning detectives were in the process of checking surveillance video from a car rental store near the alleyway.
