SUV rolls into North Monroe storefront

From staff reports

An SUV rolled through the intersection of Monroe Street and College Avenue at roughly 7:30 p.m. Sunday to crash head-on into the plexiglass exterior of the storefront opposite.

The driver of the white Escalade, who did not give his name in an interview, said he thought he had put the vehicle into park when he began to exit. However, it started to roll forward, its back tire running over his leg in the process.

Though his leg appeared bruised and superficially abraded, he said he did not believe he needed medical attention.

Police were on scene as of 8 p.m. The storefront, under a sign that faintly reads “Books,” is next to the Antique Gallery at 620 N. Monroe St. The SUV was stopped by the exterior, and besides the buckled plexiglass, the damage to the structure did not appear to be extensive.
