Maegan O’Neill scored in the fourth minute Thursday to lead Washington State (8-5-2, 3-4 Pac-12) to a 1-0 upset of second-ranked UCLA (12-1-2, 5-1-1) in women’s soccer play in Pullman.

The victory matched the Cougars’ biggest upset in program history, 1-0 over second-ranked Washington on Nov. 3, 2000.

After a Cougars corner kick, O’Neill tapped home a loose ball, assisted by Maddy Haro and Aaqila McLyn.

Ella Dederick finished with five saves to preserve her eighth shutout of the season and 15th for her career.

  • Alex Anthony scored a pair of first-half goals to guide No. 6 USC (12-1-1, 6-0-1 Pac-12) to a 2-0 victory over Washington (9-5-2, 2-3-2) in Seattle.

Volleyball

Lana Brown had 12 kills and Shannon Boyle added 11 kills and 18 digs to lead South Division-leading Sacramento State (18-7, 9-0 Big Sky) to its ninth consecutive win, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23 over host Idaho in Moscow.

Sarah Sharp and Kaela Straw combined for 29 kills for the Vandals (12-8, 7-2), who had a five-match winning streak snapped while falling into a first-place tie in the North with North Dakota.

  • Toni McDougald’s match-high 11 kills led Portland State (16-5, 7-2 Big Sky) to a 3-0 sweep over host Eastern Washington as the Eagles (6-12, 3-6) dropped their fourth consecutive match. Megan LaFond had eight kills to lead the Eagles in that category for the first time this season. Regan Harr added a team-high 14 assists and nine digs.
