WSU scientists exploring alternatives to dense jet fuel

Tribune News Service

A research team at Washington State University is studying a process for synthesizing dense jet fuel from mint, pine, gumweed, eucalyptus or other plants, according to a WSU News release.

The research is being led by Hongfei Lin, an associate professor from WSU’s Gene and Linda Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering.

His research focus is on developing highly efficient, cost-effective, sustainable catalytic processes for synthesizing fuels and chemicals from renewable resources.

The goal is to make high-energy density biofuels affordable in the aviation industry.
