Area basketball roundup: Eagles women fall to UC Riverside at Maui Classic

The Eastern Washington women were held to 27 percent shooting from the field and fell 57-45 to UC Riverside on Saturday at the Maui Classic in Lahaina, Hawaii.

Jessica McDowell-White scored 13 points, Alissa Sealby 11 for the Eagles (1-8). Sealby and Uriah Howard each grabbed seven rebounds. Jannon Otto had 15 points and nine rebounds, Marina Ewoda added 12 points and 12 boards and Daphne Gnago had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Highlanders (3-7).

Sealby, a senior forward, was named to the Maui Classic All-Tournament team for her performances over the weekend; she averaged 9.5 points and six rebounds in the two games.

Following the holiday break, the Eagles return to action for their first two Big Sky contests, Dec. 29 at Weber State and Dec. 31 at Idaho State.

Washington 69, Montana 54: Amber Melgoza’s 15 points led four Huskies in double figures in a victory over the Grizzlies in Seattle.

Hannah Johnson added 13 points and Haley Van Dyke and Mai-Loni Hanson had 11 apiece for UW (7-3). Gabi Harrington’s 13 paced Montana (4-4).

CC Spokane 57, Green River 34: The bench outscored the starters 29-28 as the Sasquatch routed the Gators at the Mount Vernon (Wash.) Tournament. .

Jessica Olson and Koyama Young scored eight points each and Katlyn Ostrowski added seven off the bench for CC Spokane (7-1). Mari Lilly’s 15 led Green River, which was held to 28 percent from the field.

Men

Umpqua 87, CC Spokane 73: Eric Klekas scored 22 points, Connor Shaw 20 as the Riverhawks (5-5) defeated the Sasquatch at the Umpqua Tournament in Roseburg, Oregon.

Garrett White scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for CC Spokane. Asher Cox added 11 points for the Sasquatch (9-3).
