Daily Crave app helps foodies find favorite flavors and menu items

Jennifer Davis, proprietor of the Scoop ice cream shop on Spokane’s South Hill, has created a free mobile app to help foodies keep track of their favorite menu items.

The recently launched Daily Crave app lets customers check the menu items that eateries and food vendors have available. The idea is to offer them “a one-stop shop,” Davis said.

Instead of searching websites and Facebook pages or having to call multiple spots, which can be frustrating and time-consuming, patrons can find establishments’ current offerings, including specials, all in one place, she said.

It’s free to download the app from iTunes or Google Play. But food vendors and establishments pay a monthly fee for the subscription service, which allows them to upload photos and information.

So far, the Scoop, Zona Blanca, Mountain Lakes Brewing and the Roast House are on board. And Davis is in the process of looking for additional local restaurants, breweries, cideries, distilleries, and farmers market and food vendors to sign on.

About 300 people have downloaded the app so far, said Davis, who partnered with local real estate agent and investor Jessica Glenn to produce the app. They began meeting about a year ago to develop the idea.

“She pulled it all out of me and got it all organized,” Davis said. “We have so many features that we’re working on.”

Alerts and loyalty programs are in the works. But the basic app is up and running. It had a soft launch at the end of November.

Davis first pitched the app during Startup Spokane in 2016. The idea didn’t make it to the finals. But, Davis said, “they listened.”

And, in the end, she said, “I got really great feedback. I knew it was needed, if only for the Scoop. I knew we needed it. And I knew I was going to do it.”

The Scoop makes ice cream with liquid nitrogen and frequently switches out flavors. It can be difficult to get the word out to customers about which flavors are available. Updating information across myriad social media platforms takes time.

The app, Davis said, makes it easy.

At the Scoop, “we just have it up on our iPad at all times,” she said. “It takes less than two minutes.”
