Eastern Washington gets commit from explosive two-way star Tre Weed

For Sumner High School football coach Keith Ross, the toughest part of National Signing Day will be saying goodbye to Tre Weed.

“Tre is a great kid, he’s just Mr. Everything here,” said Ross, who next week will watch his star wide receiver and defensive back sign a national letter of intent with Eastern Washington.

“He’s a playmaker, a great kid,” Ross said. “He’s also humble, almost shy – but very talented.”

Weed made it all but official Sunday night, announcing on Twitter his commitment to the Eagles and their tradition of excellence at wideout.

A strong Eastern Washington recruiting class got even better with the commit from Weed, one of the most explosive players in the state.

A three-star recruit according to Scout.com, the 6-foot, 190-pound Weed was the MVP last fall in the 4A South Puget Sound League.

Weed did a lot of everything for the Spartans. He had 138 carries for 1,101 yards and 14 touchdowns rushing, plus he had another 50 catches for 708 yards and 13 more TDs.

Playing both ways, he picked off eight passes his senior season, then fielded multiple offers from Division I schools before picking Eastern.

With eight days left, the Eagles’ class is almost complete. Coach Aaron Best and his staff got commitments from eight players during early signing in December.

Since then, they’ve received verbals from three-star wide receiver/defensive back Freddy Roberson of Seattle; running back Micah Smith from Graham, Washington; and Aiden Nellor, a tight end/defensive end from Vancouver, Washington.

Weed’s commit puts the Eagles at 12 signees. In December, Best said the Eagles have room for about 14 signees this year.
