Police identify suspect fatally shot by civilian at Walmart in Tumwater

Associated Press

TUMWATER, Wash. – Police have identified a 44-year-old man from McCleary, Washington, as the suspect who was shot and killed after a string of carjackings and a shooting Sunday at a Walmart store in Tumwater.

Multiple news outlets reported Monday that Tim Day was the suspect shot and killed by a citizen in the Walmart parking lot. Police identified the customer who killed Day as a 47-year-old man from Oakville.

Tumwater Police said Day fled a failed carjacking Sunday and then crashed into another vehicle in Tumwater. Police said Day then carjacked a vehicle, drove to Walmart, fired at an ammunition display case and took some ammunition.

Police said Day tried to carjack another vehicle and shot the driver when he did not comply.

Police said the Oakville man then fatally shot Day.

Authorities said the driver remains in critical condition at a Seattle hospital.
