Area roundup: WSU volleyball finishes weekend sweep of L.A. schools

Jocelyn Urias had 14 kills on career-high hitting of .700 to lead No. 23 Washington State to a 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 victory over No. 20 in Pullman on Sunday and complete the Cougars’ first weekend sweep of the UCLA and USC since 1997.

McKenna Woodford added 10 kills and Ashley Brown led WSU (15-5, 6-4 Pac-12) with 30 assists and 21 digs. The 3-0 sweep was the first against UCLA (11-6, 6-4) since 1996.

The Cougars, undefeated in seven matches in Bohler Gym this season, beat 14th-ranked USC on Friday.

Women’s soccer

Amada Porter’s deep shot in the 72nd minute sent Arizona to a 2-1 win over No. 22 Washington State in Tucson, Arizona. The loss was the fifth straight for the Cougars (10-5-0, 3-5-0).

Trailing 1-0, the Cougars tied the match in the 69th on Maegan ONeill’s fifth goal.

Four WSU starters missed the game with injuries.
