Gyro Shack in CdA has closed

Just over a year after opening, the Gyro Shack in Coeur d’Alene has closed.

The fast-casual Greek eatery, part of a regional chain, opened at the end of August 2017 in the Ironwood Square Shopping Center. It closed Oct. 12.

“We had the supply just not enough demand, which is really unfortunate,” owner Tanya Cavanaugh said Tuesday.

The menu featured 10 gyros, such as the BLT, Spicy Bacon Avocado and veggie. The eatery also served Greek salad, baklava and hummus with pita bread.

Its motto: “Real Greek, Real Fast!”

Last year, husband-and-wife owners D.J. and Tanya Cavanaugh said they were planning to open other locations – in Post Falls and Sandpoint – within the next two years. Also last year, they said they were hoping to open more in the region after that.

The couple own and operate Papa Murphy’s franchise locations in the Inland Northwest. They opened their first Papa Murphy’s in 1998 after moving to Coeur d’Alene from Orlando in 1997.

The Gyro Shack was founded eight years ago in Boise by Gus Zaharioudakis, who sold the business in 2015. Today, there are 10 locations.

A sign on the door at the CdA store reads: “It is with great sadness that we must close our business. We want to thank all of our loyal customers who have supported us during this past year. We will miss serving you.”

The Gyro Shack was at 212 W. Ironwood Drive, Suite B. On the web: gyroshackfranchise.com.
