Mead-area home partially destroyed in small landslide on private property
A northern Spokane County home on private property was partially destroyed in a small land slide this week.
Spokane County Fire District 9 firefighters were called to the Mead-area home at 15112 N. Shady Slope Road at about 10:30 a.m. Friday, where they found a two-story house was missing an entire corner, said Nathan Jeffries, the district’s division chief.
The house was abandoned, said Jeffries, and nobody was inside at the time of the slide, which happened several days earlier. Jeffries said the homeowner was aware of the damage, but hadn’t bothered to tell anyone.
“The hills right behind the house are really steep and come right behind the house,” he said. “The ground is not wet currently. But that could change with heavy rain very quickly.”
Jeffries said an emergency call was placed after an Avista worker noticed the damage while inspecting gas meters.
