Prosser officer shot in leg during foot chase

A police officer in Prosser, Washington, was shot in the leg while chasing a suspect through an apartment complex early Monday.

The officer was transported to Prosser Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the city of Prosser said in a news release. The suspect had not been arrested as of 5 a.m.

The city said officers were dispatched shortly after 1 a.m. following a report of “unknown individual(s)” trying to gain entrance to two apartments.

When officers arrived at the apartment complex in the 200 block of Canyon Drive, one officer spotted a suspect in the parking lot. The suspect began to run, the officer began a pursuit and the suspect fired shots with one round striking the officer, the city said.

KHQ reported the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office sent its helicopter to Prosser to help search for the suspect. Police asked residents to avoid that stretch of Canyon Road and Highway 22.
