Senior Standout: CMR’s Keegan Barnes

Elijah Collins SWX
You can catch him on the football field, on the court, or even on the track field. Keegan Barnes, the man of many talents. Besides spending time in his school books, Barnes makes his name great within the athletic department. In the fall time, Barnes spent a lot of his time on the football field where him and his teammates were seeking to bring home a championship title. Now, despite the disappointing season, Barnes is even more motivated to try and earn that title, but this time, on the hard wood. The feeling of raising that championship trophy above his head a couple years ago is something Keegan wants to feel again before heading out those CMR doors for the last time. “We knew coming into it, like this year we didn’t have the greatest football season we really wanted but we knew we’d have a fresh start with basketball and we could kind of just do what we want and push towards our goals” Said Barnes. Keegan also acknowledges that some of his talents have trickled down from his parents, both being three sport athletes in high school, and his mom who went on to play basketball at MSU Northern. Most importantly, Keegan is grateful for having parents who supported him and pushed him to be the player and leader he now is for the Rustlers. “He played quite a few minutes, got a little injured mid-way through the year we had some kids come back from injury, so you know he’s always been the aggressive rebounder. We have him up top on our 1-3-1 zone. So he’s always been just that aggressive athletic physical kid.. We expect him to continue to do that this year” Said CMR Head Coach John Cislo. Throughout his years, Keegan has created a special bond with his teammates and hopes that he leaves a good impact on the program, But there is someone even greater behind the scenes that he has impacted the most. “He just inspired me to like shoot a lot. Like before like I would just sit around and just like watch practice but then once he came here, he started to kind of… shoot a lot, and he was like really good and mostly made every shot. So, then I just thought maybe I could be like that someday, so I started shooting a lot and I’ve gotten a lot better at my shooting.” Said Kyler Stewart, team supporter. Now Keegan says hes excited about what the future has in store for him, but for right now hes got his eyes on the prize.
