GSL girls: Ellie Boni scores 20 points to help University down Gonzaga Prep

University 76, Gonzaga Prep 38: Ellie Boni scored 20 points and the visiting No. 16 Titans (12-4, 7-3) beat the No. 19 Bullpups (10-6, 5-5) in Greater Spokane League action on Friday.

Tyler McCliment-Call had 12 points with nine rebounds, Megan Taylor added 12 points and Jackson McCliment-Call had 10. Grace Hammon led G-Prep with nine points.

U-Hi coach Jay Kennedy had effusive praise for his leading scorer.

“I’m out of superlatives,” he said of Boni. “We have so many talented kids on this team, when we play together we can be really tough. But that kid is tough as they come. She’s one of a kind.”

U-Hi remains two games behind Central Valley in the GSL 4A race with four games to play. G-Prep is one game ahead of Mead (7-8, 3-6) for the fourth and final seed to the District 8 playoffs.

Jackson McCliment-Call popped a couple of 3-pointers in the first and U-Hi led 19-11 after one quarter. Seven Titans scored in a 19-5 second quarter run and U-Hi led 38-16 at intermission.

“We moved the ball well on offense,” Kennedy said. “That made a big difference for us. We shared the ball really well tonight.”

Central Valley 63, Shadle Park 15: MJ Bruno scored 14 points and the No. 4 Bears (13-2, 9-1) handled the visiting Highlanders (1-15, 1-7).

Mady Simmelink scored 11 points for CV and Chloe Williams added 10. CV scored the final 13 points of the first quarter and led 26-4 after one.
