Area roundup: Koyama Young’s double-double leads CC Spokane women to victory

Koyama Young totaled 18 points and 10 rebounds and Shania Graham hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 to propel the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch women (15-4, 4-3) to a 70-47 victory over the Blue Mountain Timberwolves (2-14, 0-6) in Northwest Athletic Conference play on Monday in Pendleton, Oregon.

Alexia Novelli pitched in with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Sasquatch, who outrebounded Blue Mountain 42-35. CC Spokane led 28-16 after the first quarter and held the Timberwolves to three points in the second period to take a 44-19 lead into intermission.

North Idaho 83, Columbia Basin 66: Alex Carlton sank three 3-pointers and scored 17 points and Alivia Williams and Heidi Sellman scored 16 apiece to power the Cardinals women (14-4, 4-2) to a win over the Hawks (10-8, 1-5) in NWAC play in Coeur d’Alene.

Keara Simpson pitched in with 11 points and seven boards and reserve Anna Schrade grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the Cardinals.

Alexis Castro hit six 3-pointers and scored 38 to pace CBC.

Men’s basketball

Dedrick Pakootas tossed in 23 points, knocking down 5 of 7 from 3-point range, and added six rebounds and six assists to lead the CC Spokane Sasquatch (15-5, 6-1) to an 83-73 victory over the Blue Mountain Timberwolves (4-13, 2-4) in NWAC play in Pendleton, Oregon.

Isaiah Gotell contributed 12 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Sasquatch, while Garrett White scored 11 and grabbed eight boards.

North Idaho 123, Columbia Basin 50: Emmitt Taylor made eight 3-pointers on his way to 24 points and Nate Pryor scored 22 to guide the Cardinals (17-2, 6-0) to a rout over the visiting Hawks (4-14, 1-5) in NWAC play.

Phillip Malatare scored 18, RayQuan Evans added 15 points and eight rebounds and Alphonso Anderson and Jarod Greene scored 14 apiece for NIC.
