UNLV outlasts WSU 12-7

LAS VEGAS – Grant Robbins went 3 for 3 with a double and three runs batted in and UNLV took advantage of 10 walks to outlast Washington State 12-7 in nonconference baseball on Wednesday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Dillon Plew homered for a second straight game, hitting a three-run shot off Runnin’ Rebels starter Ty Pohlmann and giving the Cougars (6-10) a 4-3 lead in the third inning. Danny Sinatro had two hits and an RBI for WSU, and Collin Montez and Koby Blunt had two hits apiece with both players scoring runs.
Plew has reached base in all 16 games for the Cougars this season and 19 straight dating to last season. WSU’s Tyson Guerrero hit his first career home run – a solo shot.
Michael Newstrom started for the Cougars, allowing three runs – two earned – on five hits and a walk. He struck out a career-high three in a career-best three innings. Trent Sellers (0-1) followed Newstrom and was saddled with the loss after surrendering three runs on two walks and a hit in one inning.
UNLV (11-7) scored runs off six Cougars pitchers.
