College soccer: No. 2 Stanford blanks No. 14 Washington State 5-0
PALO ALTO, Calif. – Catarina Macario scored twice for second-ranked Stanford, and the Cardinal secured a 5-0 victory over No. 14 Washington State in a Pac-12 women’s soccer game Thursday night at Cagan Stadium.
Sophia Smith broke a scoreless tie in the 23rd minute, and Macario’s penalty kick doubled the Cardinal lead before halftime.
Madison Haley extended Stanford’s lead to 3-0 in the first minute of the second half. Macario scored again in the 71st minute, and Naomi Girma scored in the 82nd minute.
Ella Dederick made nine saves for WSU (8-2, 1-1). Katie Meyer stopped one shot for Stanford (9-1, 2-0).
