Fire at Pentagon Bistro in Liberty Lake injures firefighter

A fire that started outside the Pentagon Bistro in Liberty Lake on Monday moved inside and up to the roof, leaving one firefighter injured.

Just before 9:30 p.m. the Spokane Valley Fire Department was called to the restaurant, which is located at 1421 N. Meadowwood Lane, after a caller saw smoke and flames on the outside of the restaurant.

Four minutes later, the first fire units arrived and found heavy fire on the northeast corner of the restaurant, according to a fire department statement.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in under seven minutes. Damage was kept primarily to the exterior siding and sofit. The restaurant was closed for the evening at the time of the fire and no employees were present.

A firefighter was injured when part of the interior ceiling fell on him, the fire department reported. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation but was released with minor injuries.

“Unfortunately we will be closed for the remainder of the week due to a fire last night. It somehow started outside the restaurant and crept its way in,” the bistro wrote on Facebook. “The fire department was there within minutes and they were absolutely amazing … our thoughts are with the firefighter who may have been injured.”

The cause of the fire is currently listed as “undetermined” and is still under investigation, according to the fire department.
