Medical Lake shooting leaves man hospitalized in serious condition

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office investigators are questioning witnesses to an early-morning shooting that sent one man to the hospital in Medical Lake on Thursday.

The shooting was reported just before 4 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of North Howard Street and Brooks Road, Spokane County Sheriff’s Cpl. Mark Gregory said.

One man shot another, according to preliminary information. One of the men involved called in the shooting, he said.

The man shot was taken to the hospital by a private party before investigators arrived, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. The shooter told investigators he shot in self-defense, the release said.

Witnesses are being questioned at the scene. The man shot is in serious condition and being evaluated for treatment at a local hospital, Gregory said.

Authorities say the incident does not appear to be random and there is no threat to the public .
