Felon suspected of shooting man in Food Mart parking lot

A shooting in the Food Mart parking lot in Spokane Valley Friday led to the arrest of a convicted felon on three charges, according to a Spokane Valley Police Department press release.

Witnesses said the suspected shooter, later identified as Fabian Gonzalez, 34, arrived as a passenger in a car driven by a woman. He approached a man sitting in his own car. The two argued before Gonzalez shot the man in his upper leg, the release said.

The victim was hospitalized in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.

Deputies found the car in which the suspect and driver fled near Trent Avenue and Fancher Road and attempted to stop it but the driver continued, the release said. Deputies stopped the car near South Greene Street and Indiana Avenue, where Spokane police officers helped bring both suspects into custody.

As a felon, Gonzalez is prohibited from possessing a firearm. Detectives charged Gonzalez with assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and violation of a domestic violence order of protection, the release said.

The female driver was released after her interview but may face charges later, according to the release.
