Knife-wielding man in Mission Park arrested
Spokane police arrested a man who allegedly threatened people with a knife in Mission Park on Thursday night.
The man, whom police did not publicly identify, was arrested without incident and will face charges of harassment by making threats to kill .
Police received multiple reports of a man accosting park goers with a knife at about 7 p.m.
Two officers spotted the man walking away from the park and followed him as he walked through an alley, refusing their commands to stop, according to a statement issued by the Spokane Police Department.
With assistance from additional officers, including a K-9 unit, the man was arrested without conflict on the Iron Bridge near Superior Street. The officers focused on deescalating the situation and clearing bystanders from the man’s path, according to police.
The man allegedly admitted to officers that he was influenced by methamphetamines and diagnosed mental health conditions.
Officers later recovered the knife, which the man had allegedly discarded prior to his arrest.
