School deputy arrests East Valley High student suspected of using brass knuckles during fight
An East Valley High School resource deputy arrested a 16-year-old student suspected of using brass knuckles during a fight with another student Tuesday morning.
The incident started when a 17-year-old student challenged the 16-year-old student to a fight via Snapchat during the weekend, according to a news release. The 17-year-old told investigators he wanted to see how tough the 16-year-old was.
The fight initially was planned for Monday but the 16-year-old wasn’t at school until Tuesday morning, according to a news release. The 17-year-old student then approached another 16-year-old and offered him $100,000 to fight in his place.
The school resource deputy responded to the reported fight just before 8 a.m., according to a news release. The 16-year-old fighting in the 17-year-old’s place told the deputy the 16-year-old suspect pulled out brass knuckles during the fight and hit him in the back of the head.
A 15-year-old witness said he saw the 16-year-old victim bleeding during the fight in the gym and tackled the suspect to stop the fight, according to a news release. The witness said the suspect was wearing brass knuckles.
The deputy detained the suspect in the front of the school as he was attempting to leave, according to a news release. The deputy reported the suspect had blood on his hands.
The 16-year-old suspect was booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of second-degree assault, according to a news release. School officials will determine potential administrative discipline.
