Spokane police suspect man of imprisoning woman in her car, stealing it, assaulting her
Spokane police arrested a Spokane man suspected forcing himself into his ex-girlfriend’s car, restraining her, and then stealing her car.
The woman told police 33-year-old Alexander Kalender, against whom she had a valid and served no-contact order, showed up at her apartment around 11 p.m. on Aug. 12.
She said Kalender accused her of cheating on him, then left when she asked, according to court documents.
When she returned to her apartment around midnight with another man, Kalender arrived, told the man to get out of the car and began hitting him, according to court documents.
Kalender then sat in the driver’s seat and began arguing with the woman. He held her arms to keep her inside the car, according to court documents.
After wiggling free she was able to get out of the car. Kalender then drove away in the woman’s car, according to police.
Nineteen days later he asked her to go with him to a motel. He picked her up and drove her to the room, she told police.
Witnesses in the room said the two argued before she grabbed the keys and drove away in her car, she told police.
