SVHS senior Alex Bityukov is a piano-tuning protégé

At 18 years old, Spokane Valley High School senior Alex Bityukov has learned to make all the strings of the piano sing together in harmony. “A lot of people don’t think you can tune a piano when you’re 18, or even 17,” said Bityukov, who has been learning the trade from Dan Loibl, also known as Dan the Piano Man, for the past five years. “I actually started tuning in houses when I was 17.”

I like to see people smile; it makes me happy. I feel that if I’m friendly and show kindness to everyone, they’ll do the same for someone else.”

Micah Cole has always been the kind of person who has a powerful desire to learn how things work. East Valley schools to see changes due to enrollment slide

With declining enrollment and related staff cuts, East Valley School District administrators are making changes in day-to-day operations. Interim Superintendent Tom Gresch is hoping scheduling changes will help keep many of the 66 staff members who received layoff notices at the beginning of the month.
