OLYMPIA -- The Legislature adjourned the regular session for 2016 Thursday night and began a special session less than a half hour later.

The gavel came down on the regular session in an almost empty Senate chamber shortly after 9 p.m. But lawmakers have not negotiated a supplemental budget to update spending for the second half of the 2015-17 biennium. Gov. Jay Inslee called for a special session at 9:30 p.m. and it was gaveled into action about seven minutes later.
