Walkin’ Jim Stoltz At Sfcc

Don Adair Correspondent

Walkin’ Jim Stoltz came by his name the natural way - he’s walked the length and the breadth of the country, taking pictures and writing songs along the way.

Stoltz brings his folk song-based multimedia show to Spokane Falls Community College on Thursday evening, a show that’s been hailed as an inspiration and a tribute to the beauties of the backcountry.

“… Just to hear his songs makes me feel like I’ve walked the endless miles with him,” one reviewer wrote.

Stoltz figures he’s walked more than 18,000 miles and over the years he’s developed a repertoire of stories, songs and photographs that catalogue splendors that most people will never see.

Stoltz writes about grizzlies and mountain lions, long-ago mountain men and desert sunsets. He syncs his music and stories to a passing parade of slides, most of them his own.

Said another writer: “… his exquisite photographs led me through the wilderness … and illuminated his songs. They danced and dissolved at just the right moment. The timing of the lyrics was almost eerie.”

Stoltz’s performance is part of the Earth Week celebration at SFCC and is sponsored by the Sierra Club. His show begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $8 general admission, $6 students, and are available at G&B outlets and at the door; or call the SFCC Earth Club advisor, Gary Blevins, at 533-3661.
